Chapter 2. Necrosis and apoptosis

Necrosis and apoptosis are two most common (but not the only) types of cell and tissue death in a living organism, although these do not include all the other possible variations of that process. Necrosis occurs as a result of irreversible damage caused by various factors, whereas apoptosis develops due to the initiation of a genetically determined cell death program, without the cell sustaining lethal damage previousy.
